st francis prayer newsletter week 10
Dear families and friends,
This has definitely been a fun and exciting term, packed with learning and teaching and a large number of extra curricular activities. It seems so long ago when we gathered together on the oval to enjoy our 'We Are One' concert. I would like to acknowledge all the staff and families at St Francis for their constant support and dedication to everyone here, our achievements would not be the same without it.

Sadly, I take this opportunity to inform our families and friends of Megan Nertney's decision to resign from her position here at St Francis and return to Alice Springs at the end of the school year. During her time, Megan has given unwavering support to the leadership team and the staff, nurturing our Catholic identity especially at the Monday morning prayer assemblies, whole school masses and class liturgies and has been a wonderful classroom teacher to the students in Room 2. We will all miss Miss Nertney but thank her for the contributions she shared with us. The position will be advertised in the coming weeks through Catholic Education Northern Territory. A more formal farewell will take place at the end of the school year celebrations.
Last week our Year 6 students attended the NT Catholic Primary School Public Speaking competition held at Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School in Palmerston. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to network and meet new friends as they prepare to leave and move onto middle school.
We are proud to announce that Vincent Nguyen, who represented our school, speaking on the topic “Space exploration is a waste of time and money," won the title of public speaking speaker for 2019. Congratulations Vincent, who did an excellent job.

This week we enjoyed hosting Simon Collier from ACARA. He has continued his work with the classes, integrating digital technology into our learning. I know that the children really love having him visit their classroom. Thank you Simon and we look forward to seeing you here again next term.
Today visiting our school we have the executive staff from the Catholic Education Office. The visit is our opportunity to share with the executive staff some of our achievements, progress and strengths. It is also an opportunity to have conversations about some of our challenges.
This week we welcome another work experience student from MacKillop Catholic College, Idelle Bolwell. Miss Idelle has enjoyed working with a number of classes across the school. We hope that she has enjoyed the experience and has gained a better understanding of how hard and how patient teachers need to be.
The Woolworths Discovery garden program is continuing to excite our students especially those who are in the Gardening Club. Families who may not be collecting these pots are encouraged to send them into school for the 2020 Gardening Club.

Tomorrow we will celebrate our patron saint, St Francis of Assisi. We will begin the celebrations with a whole school mass followed by some water fun activities.

I hope that everyone has a safe and enjoyable holiday and I look forward to seeing you next term.
Stay safe.

Grow in wisdom and love
