Dear St Francis Families,
This coming Sunday signifies the beginning of the Church’s Season of Advent which leads into Christmas. The Christmas season is an exciting time of the year as it is a time where family gets together to share a meal and exchange gifts. The excitement of Santa, singing carols and putting up Christmas decorations is in the air. However, it is important to remember the real reason for this season as this is the time to remember the birth of Jesus. We will commence our Advent journey with the students on Monday sharing the first of four Liturgies that celebrate each of the weeks leading up to the birth of Jesus at Christmas.

The Darwin Christmas Pageant was a highlight and a great way to end the year. We had so many families supporting the students and are so pleased to have had them join in the Christmas spirit at the pageant, we thank you for your efforts. It was a magical evening and the students sung, danced and smiled as they walked past the crowd. It seemed that everyone from Darwin was cheering from the sidelines. Our entry was awarded best walking group, a very proud achievement. It would not have been possible without Renae and her team. Renae, Alana, Gemma, Annamarie and Nola, you are amazing. We thank the sensational staff at St Francis for supporting our students and Activate Darwin for this wonderful event, we look forward to next year.

Our choir is singing at the Rural Christmas Carols on Saturday night and hope that many of our families our able to join us at Bees Creek Primary. The singing begins at 6:15pm with the sausage sizzle beginning at 5:30pm. We wish the choir a wonderful evening.

On Monday we will gather together during the First Week of Advent to pray for the grace we need to live as people of hope. We will pray and be reminded to bring the light of Christ to the darkness of this world. The first week of Advent is a time to remember the gift of hope we have in Christ. The prophets of Israel all spoke of the coming of Christ, of how a saviour would be born, a king in the line of David. They spoke of how he would rule the world wisely and bless all nations.
As followers of Christ, we wait with hope for his return. We remember that it was from the manger at Bethlehem that he came and gave light to the world. We will light a candle, to be reminded to be alert and to watch for the light of Christ even in the most unlikely places and people.

HOPE
Hope is the power to believe anything is possible.
Hope, believe, positive thoughts and prayers.
Never giving up. Perseverance, and positivity always.
The voice in your head that says, “You can do this.”
It is that friend who holds your hand and leads you through darkness.
Hope is loving one another.
Jesus brought the rainbow back, to show there was colour in the world.
Love one another as I have loved you.
