Hi everyone,

Thank you so much for supporting our lovely calm start this year, having your children well prepared and ready to engage in a new year of learning and developing friendships. I have spent a lot of time with our students this week and it has been wonderful to see the positive attitudes and calm and engaging classroom environments. It has been such a delight to see the smiles, laughs and children excited to partake in classroom activities. Play times have been an absolute joy, with the children showing the Spirit of Jesus as they include others in their games.

Our teachers have been so excited to welcome the students and families and I thank them for their efforts. It was great to have our parents come and meet the teachers on Tuesday night and find out about the learning journey ahead. We welcome our new staff to life at St Francis and thank them for their efforts. Welcome to Josephine Santos our Year 2/1 teacher, Elizebeth Pitia our Year 3/2 teacher, Janine Roach our 5/4 teacher, Jackson Chisholm supporting across classrooms and Lynette Carseldine who is supporting across classrooms. They have joined a great team and we are so happy to welcome them to our school. We welcome our new students and families, the new students have settled so well, and I thank our students for their inclusivity and warm welcome they have given.

Father Rodrigo has been having a well-deserved holiday to visit his family, we look forward to welcoming him back on his return. Father Miguel has joined the parish and we welcome him to our community.

A letter was sent to all families regarding assemblies being held on a Thursday this year. We had a very limited response to the proposed change to Friday and we are keen to hear from more of our families. If you have not completed the Google Form, please click on the link below as we would like to hear from everyone.

Morning fitness has been a hit with our students. Studies state that starting the day with exercise boosts the mood of a child, increases blood flow to the brain, and improves focus setting them up for a successful start to the day. The fun they are having out there is fabulous.

Our staff encourage our families to assist in the classroom and at events and we have some keen parents ready to assist. As you will be working the children, we ask that you have a working with children clearance, a volunteer one. It will require a form completed by the school before you apply. Our office staff will happily assist you with this. Please don’t hesitate to speak to us regarding this.

This year, NAPLAN is in Term 1 and the test window dates are Wednesday 15 March to Monday 27 March 2023. We will send information to our Year 3 and Year 5 families.

I’ll be at a conference next Wednesday - Friday so please contact Jan McCarthy if you have any queries. I am excited about the year ahead and I hope that 2023 proves to be an extremely fruitful year for all of us.

Have a great weekend.
Jen
