Volume 29 Issue 135
Thursday 15th June 2023

Hello families,

Term 2 is coming to an end and our teachers are keeping the fun and learning going until holidays begin. We have had a very smooth Week 9 both in the classroom and at play. Everyone has been very focused in class and striving to achieve their best. The students have had a great time on the oval with Mr Lachie and Mr Jackson giving the students a run with football skills at recess and our Year 6 leaders have been leading soccer at lunch time.

The gymnastics classes facilitated by Darwin Gymnastics have come to an end this week. All the classes had a great time whilst learning new skills and all of our teaches joined in the fun. Lily G from Year 3/2 competed in the Darwin Invitational on the weekend in the Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG). We congratulate her for her great achievements. She was awarded 1st place in bar, 1st place in the floor routine, 2nd place in vault and overall, she placed 1st.

NAIDOC Week will be celebrated over the school holidays and at St Francis we will come together to celebrate the rich history, diverse cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the oldest continuing cultures on the planet starting on Monday at 8:30am as a whole school. We will have activities throughout the week across the classes. The theme in 2023 is For Our Elders. Across every generation, our Elders have played, and continue to play, an important role and hold a prominent place in our communities and families. We invite our families to join us on Thursday 22nd for our NAIDOC liturgy beginning at 9:00am.

We have an evacuation drill scheduled for Tuesday 19th June at 9:30am. The teachers will speak to their students in their classrooms about this, but if you believe your child may get nervous, please feel free to reiterate the message that we practice these drills so that everyone can be safe and calm during an emergency.

We have one week left to go! The students are often very tired at the end of term and this can bring on emotions. Our teachers will be talking to the students on how to deal with big feelings, even when they are tired. We’d appreciate it you supported this from home too. We are looking forward to a positive, fun and happy end to the term.

School reports will be sent home next week and I thank our teachers for their hard work. The last day of term is next Friday 23rd June and we invite all students to wear FREE DRESS! We will end with some dancing and games.

Our T/1 class will be leading our assembly on Friday.
