Hi All,

On Monday afternoon we gathered to acknowledge Remembrance Day which this year fell over the weekend. Remembrance Day acknowledges the end of World War One on the 11th of November 1918. Over time it has become an opportunity to show our gratitude for all of those who have served in all conflicts. Father Rodrigo led us in a liturgy to mark this important occasion.

In the Top End, we have strong links to Australia’s military forces both currently and historically. Many members of our St Francis community have family members who are currently or previously served. My own family links to Australia’s military are connected with the Northern Territory with my Grandfather, Bill Walsh, being deployed to Darwin during World War Two before heading to Papua New Guinea.

Bill had some memorable experiences while based in Darwin including working at night to lay barbed wire on the beaches from Mindil Beach to Casuarina. He and his platoon mates also enjoyed R&R days at Howard Springs. Bill then traveled to PNG where he saw plenty of action. He was one of the lucky ones who returned home at the end of war.

Lest We Forget

Christmas Pageant and Rural Carols
St Francis of Assisi will be represented at both the Darwin Christmas Pageant this Saturday, 18th of November in the CBD and the Rural Carols next Saturday, November 25th at Bees Creek Primary School. This will be my first time at both events but I have heard that they are both wonderful. Please come along and support our school and get in the Christmas spirit!

Apple for a Teacher
There is only one day left to jump online and support Miss Santos in the Hot100 FM ‘Apple for a Teacher’ competition. There are loads of wonderful prizes for the winning teacher and school.

School Wide Positive Behaviour
This term the school has introduced School Wide Positive Behaviour expectations and processes across the school. School Wide Positive Behaviour is a research and evidence based approach that is utilised by schools across the world. The aim of School Wide Positive Behaviour is to have clear and consistent behaviour management processes used right across the school.

Below are the school’s Behaviour Expectations and Behaviour Response Processes. If you have any questions or would like to discuss this further please do not hesitate to contact me.
