A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

unnamed
Hi All,

This week is Holy Week, which is the most sacred period in the Church year. Beginning on Palm Sunday and concluding on Easter Sunday the week marks the passion of Jesus through his crucifixion, death and resurrection. Across the school students have been learning about the events of Holy Week. This culminated in a Stations of the Cross play performed by Senior students this morning.

Harmony Day
Last Thursday as a school we marked Harmony Day, which was a great opportunity to celebrate the many cultures that make up our community. Harmony Day is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural or linguistic background, united by a set of core values. Our school, like Australia, is a vibrant and multicultural community — from the oldest continuous culture of our first Australians to the cultures of our newest arrivals from around the world. Our cultural diversity is one of our greatest strengths and is at the heart of who we are.

We celebrate on March 21st, this is the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. The colour orange is used because it signifies social communication and meaningful conversations. It also relates to the freedom of ideas and encouragement of mutual respect.

Our day started with a parade with a number of students and staff either wearing orange or an outfit that represented their cultural background. Students then worked in their house groups through a range of activities from different countries and cultures. The activities included Indigenous stories and games, Chinese calligraphy, Indonesian cultural dress-ups, Irish craft and Asian cooking. A special thank you to Elle Tran for all her help on the day showing the students how to make Vietnamese spring rolls.
