A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

unnamed
Hi All,

This week we celebrate National Science Week with students participating in a number of
science and technology related activities. The school theme for National Science Week in 2024
is Species Survival - More than just sustainability. The theme aims to highlight the importance of
science and innovation in ensuring the survival and thriving of different species in an ever-
changing world.

On Monday all classes took part in special Science lessons with our new Deputy Principal,
Clare Nolan. Clare officially starts at school next week but has made a number of visits to St Francis
of Assisi this term to meet the students and staff. Our Junior P class also took part in their first
of two lessons through Landcare NT’s Native Flora, Fauna and Biodiversity Science Education
Program.

Art Show
Thank you to everyone who came along and supported our Art Show on Wednesday
afternoon. It was a wonderful way to celebrate the work of children both from the school and
Early Learning Centre. The theme for the Art Show was ‘Our Common Home’ which aimed to
reflect on Pope Francis' encyclical letter 'Laudato si'.

As well as celebrating the children’s work the Art Show also served as a P&F fundraiser.
Families are able to order a variety of products with the children’s work printed on it. All children
completed the plate template. Other templates for other items are available from the office with
the artwork to be completed at home. All orders need to be finalised by Friday August 23rd.

Bookfair
Ms Honey will be running a Bookfair next week in our Library. Please see below the times the fair is open for purchases.

As it is also Bookweek next week we will be having a Bookweek Dressup Assembly next Friday. Please come along as your favourite character.

Staffing Update
It gives me great pleasure to welcome Karina Purcell to the St Francis of Assisi school
community. Karina has joined the team as an Inclusion Support Assistant working primarily in
the Junior S class. Karina joins us from Alawa Primary School where she held a similar position.
I am sure that everyone will make her feel most welcome at our school.
