A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
This week as a school community we mark the occasion of Holy Week. Christians describe the season of Lent as a journey with its final destination being Holy Week. The events of Holy Week recount the passion narratives in the New Testament Gospels that relate to the suffering death and burial of Jesus Christ. Holy Week marks the last week of the Christian season of Lent – the week leading up to Easter.
Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday, when Christians commemorate Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. This is followed by the Last Supper that Jesus shares with his disciples, his betrayal by his disciple Judas and his arrest at the Garden of Gethsemane. Good Friday commemorates Jesus’ trial before Pontius Pilate, his sentence of death, his torture, and his crucifixion and burial. The school will hold a Stations of the Cross performance on Thursday morning with students retelling the events of Holy Week.

Pop-Up School This week we welcomed the staff and students from St Francis Xavier Catholic School, Daly River (Nauiyu) who will be operating a pop-up school on our school site. As many of you would be aware the Daly River community has recently experienced major flooding, leading to the evacuation of its residents.
The Daly River community was initially housed at Foskey's Pavilion at the Darwin Showgrounds and ran a pop-up school at St John’s Catholic College. However, the majority of the community has now been relocated to Batchelor so our school was chosen at the best location for the pop-up school.
I am pleased that our school is able to offer some assistance to the Daly River community during this difficult time. The pop-up school will operate in the Outside of School Hours Care building and the library computer lab. It will operate on its own schedule and program. There will be minimal disruption to the regular day-to-day school routines, learning programs and services for the students of St Francis of Assisi.
Our staff have worked closely with staff from Catholic Education Northern Territory and
St Francis Xavier School, Daly River to ensure the best outcomes for all students. Due to the extent of the flooding, the duration of the evacuation is unknown, but I will maintain regular communication and provide updates as they become available.
NAPLAN Testing Well done to all our Grade Three and Five students who completed their NAPLAN assessments. The results will be shared with families later in the year.
