A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Hi All,

I trust that everyone is recovering from the impacts of Cyclone Fina and things are slowly returning to normal. Aside from being without power which meant we were unable to open on Monday the school fared quite well considering. We lost a few trees and branches but avoided any major damage. With the power being restored we were able to be back to full operations by Tuesday morning. It is often through challenging times that we see the very best of our community spirit. It has been wonderful to see people going out of their way to help those in need.

Coloured Sand Recall Update

I am pleased to announce that we have carried out all required steps following the recent recall of a range of coloured sand products which may contain asbestos. We have worked with NT WorkSafe and the Catholic Education Northern Territory Work Health and Safety Manager throughout this process.

All coloured sand products which we onsite at the school, ELC and OSHC have been removed by a licensed asbestos contractor. We have also carried out specialist cleaning and air monitoring in the rooms where recalled products were stored which returned negative results. All our spaces are now back in use and I would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone for their patience and understanding during this time. The safety of the children in our care will always be the top priority for us at St Francis of Assisi.

The Advent Season

This Sunday marks the beginning of the Season of Advent, the special time each year when we prepare for the coming of Jesus at Christmas. Advent is a uniquely joyous and hopeful season in the Church year. It is symbolised by the wreath and candles which are lit each Sunday during this period to mark a new focus. The themes explored each week include hope, peace, joy, and love.

As we prepare for the Christmas season there are a number of community events taking place. This Saturday November 29th our school choir will be performing as part of the Rural Carols event at Bees Creek Primary School. This is always a great night and I know that Mrs Dando has been working hard to get ready.

Congratulations Talan

A big congratulations to one of our newest employees Talan Gilson who has not only recently completed his Year 12 Studies at MacKillop Catholic College but was also named the NT Board of Studies 2025 Year 12 Vocational Education and Training award recipient. Talan, who is a former student at St Francis of Assisi, recently joined our Early Learning Centre and Outside of School Hours Care services as an educator.
