A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear families,

There has been a hive of activity across all classes with students striving to do their best across the learning areas. The engagement in Mathletics has been sensational in the classes and the students have been very determined to try and achieve 1000 points to receive a weekly certificate.

Our school participated in National Simultaneous Storytime on Wednesday. The story this year was Family Tree by Josh Pyke and Ronojoy Ghosh. It is a beautiful story that celebrates family and community. The students requested that the story be read again. It generated rich discussion amongst the students, and they were engaged in class activities based on the story.

On Wednesday 8th June in Week 8 we will be having a school dress up and disco day during the school day. The students will get their groove on and have some fun disco dancing. The canteen will be closed; however, we will have a disco lunch available for pre-order. Disco orders will be sent out on Monday and uploaded onto Dojo.

Have fun and stay safe on the weekend.

Getting to know our Inclusion Support in 2022 Kate Fiedler

FD58F84E-D564-4106-A0D5-8BCCEFE86781_4_5005_c

Hello, my name is Kate Fiedler and I am a staff member at St Francis of Assisi Catholic Primary School. My roles are the Inclusion Support Co-ordinator (ISC) and Inclusion Support Practitioner (ISP). I have more than 12 years of classroom teaching experience and am currently doing further study in the area of Inclusive Education. It has been great to put my learning into action while I work in these roles for the first time this year.

Role of ISC and ISP:
  • Work alongside teachers in the classroom and with students (eg. support, extension)
  • Assess, collect and share student data with staff (eg. observations, individual testing)
  • Support teachers and Inclusion Support Assistants to monitor student progress
  • Use data to inform targeted planning for students and whole class learning
  • Consult students about their strengths, challenges and goals for learning
  • Update student Education Adjustment Plans (EAPs) with teachers and families
  • Research or create specific teaching and learning resources
  • Assist principal to develop whole school frameworks of student support
  • Provide training opportunities for staff about inclusive education practices
  • Liaise with Catholic Education NT, St Francis staff, families and students
  • And more…
More about me:
  • Born in Mackay QLD, although I feel more like a Territorian!
  • Grew up in Jabiru, enjoying all of my primary schooling there.
  • Highschool, university and my first year of teaching were in Gladstone QLD (my parents and brother still live there).
  • Have lived in Swan Hill VIC, Cairns QLD, Ireland and it’s my third time being in Darwin.
  • Love my family, fiancé, friends, fitness, tennis, volleyball, dancing, camping, writing, coffee, cheese platters and dogs!
If you have any concerns or questions about your child’s learning, the first step is to contact the classroom teacher. This is because they work with your child daily and know them best as learners. If required, further steps and processes are taken by the Inclusion team and classroom teacher. I understand communication with families is important and this will be done in a timely, confidential and respectful way.

Looking forward to continuing a great year at St Francis with you all.

ELEMENTS OF ART- FORM AND SHAPE

The Year 3-6 students created an origami shark this week. This art form stimulates areas of the brain as it requires hand-eye coordination, develops fine-motor skills and supports mental concentration. The students then used their artistic talents and creativity to create their shark.
