We only have four weeks of the school year left, and we have a very busy end to the term with lots of exciting events. The students across the grades continue to be impressive learners. To walk into classes and see everyone engaged and working in their learning groups is fantastic. Our junior grades have been using their sound knowledge in their writing and I have read some very long wish lists to Santa. Walking into the upper grades I was very impressed to see the students editing and providing feedback to one another during the writing process. I was blown away by the fluency of their discussion and that their constructive feedback was used to improve each writing piece.

Our 2023 Transition students have been in ‘Big School’ for their orientation sessions and Thursday was their final session. They were an absolute delight and had a great time participating in the programme. We look forward to seeing them every day in 2023. We thank all of our teachers and support staff for their assistance. There are still places available for new families to enrol, if you know of families enquiring about Transition, please ask that they contact the school for an interview.

St Francis of Assisi is getting into the Christmas spirit and taking part in the City of Darwin Christmas Pageant tomorrow. It will be a sensational event, please wave to our students as they walk past representing our school in the Nativity Scene. Thank you to our team on the P & F led by Renae Scown and to Mrs Nola Hebb for organising and leading this big event. New P & F members are welcomed, please advise the front office if you would like to be a part of this dynamic group.

We are finalising our staffing and classes for 2023. Many hours of time and effort go into creating our classes as there are many factors that need to be considered. We aim to ensure the best balance of academic, social, emotional needs for every student to provide the supports needed for each student in their learning journey. I am pleased to announce that Jan McCarthy will continue in her role as Deputy Principal at St Francis of Assisi. We will notify our school community of our staffing and classes for 2023 in the upcoming weeks.

Our basketball teams are to be congratulated on the sportsmanship they showed at the interschool event on Wednesday. All students braved the warm weather and trained every lunch time in the weeks leading up to the event. I big shout out to the Year 6 boys for winning their division.

INTERSCHOOL BASKETBALL 3x 3 COMPETITION

The basketball training sessions were very fun, and we did a lot of shooting practise to improve skills. The team competed against one another at training which helped us on the day to be competitive and good sports. We arrived at a very quiet basketball complex and we were feeling a little nervous. We snuck in some pre-game training, and we felt warmed up and ready to go. The Year 6 boys first game was impressive with a score of 35-8 and this made us very confident. The girl's team played well and got in some great shots. They were cutting and leading to the ball and showed very good sportsmanship. The Year 5 boys put up some great shots and ran hard all day. All the teams displayed great sportsmanship. The Year 6 boys were tournament winners and were first place champions in their pool. We thank Mr Brodie for coaching us and putting in so much time to prepare the team.
