A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
I would like to take the opportunity to congratulate Miss Josephine Santos on her appointment as the Religious Education Coordinator at St Francis of Assisi. Miss Santos is a highly accomplished teacher of Religious Education with a strong understanding of the Catholic faith and traditions. This position will allow her to support the teaching of Religious Education across the school. With Miss Santos taking on this leadership role, Mrs Leanne Bolton will be providing additional support in the Room One - 2/1 Class.
This semester there will also be some slight changes to specialist subjects. Physical Education lessons will now be held on Wednesdays with myself and Mr Michael Anderson. Indonesian and Art classes will be held on Fridays. Miss Ibu Guido from the Darwin Languages Centre will continue to teach Indonesian while Mrs Terry Casey will be teaching Art.

Soon, all families of students in Grade Three and Five will receive their child’s NAPLAN (National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy) report. NAPLAN is a series of standardised tests that are administered to Australian students in Years 3, 5, 7, and 9. The purpose of NAPLAN is to assess and report on the literacy and numeracy skills of students in Australia and to provide a snapshot of student performance across the country.
NAPLAN tests assess students' abilities in reading, writing, language conventions (spelling, grammar, and punctuation), and numeracy. The tests are designed to measure student achievement against national standards and to provide information to students, parents, teachers, and schools about individual student performance and areas for improvement.
The results of NAPLAN tests are used by schools and education authorities to identify areas of strength and weakness in their teaching programs and to develop strategies to improve student learning outcomes. The results are also used to inform policy development and decision-making in education at the national level. However, it's important to note that NAPLAN results are just one measure of student achievement and should be used in conjunction with other sources of information to assess student progress and inform teaching and learning strategies.

We know that all children have their own unique gifts and talents. To quote the words of Albert Einstein: “Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.”

As I start in my new role as Principal of St Francis of Assisi, I want to get to know the school community as much as possible. If you are able to spare 10 minutes, please complete the following short survey - https://forms.gle/VNsj67B7LaDGLjGM6

The students and staff at St Francis of Assisi are very excited for the upcoming Athletics Carnival which will be held at school on Friday August 4th. Please return all lunch order forms for the day as soon as possible or pack lunch for the day as the canteen will not be operating. Lunch order forms and a timetable for the day are included in this newsletter.
Families are encouraged to attend if they are able to make it. Our Parents and Friends will be running a stall with coffee and cake available. If you are able to assist in the running of events on the day please contact the school office.
A reminder that Friday September 8th will be a school closure day for Catholic Education Northern Territory’s biannual staff Catholic Identity Day. The ELC will continue to operate on that day and the school will also run a Vacation Care program. Booking forms and more information on the Vacation Care will be shared shortly.
