A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
|
|
This week marks the Feast Day of Australia's only Saint, Sister Mary MacKillop. Born in Melbourne in 1842, Mary lived a truly amazing and inspiring life. She worked tirelessly throughout her life to improve the lives of those most in need. This was often done with little or no support from government or church institutions.
|
One of the lasting legacies of Mary MacKillop and the Sisters of Saint Joseph is the Catholic schools which they established throughout South Australia and western Victoria. My previous school, St Patrick's in Stawell, was a Josephite school which was very proud of their links with Mary MacKillop.
|
One of the things that Mary MacKillop is known for is her wonderful quotes. One of which that I refer to each and every day is: 'Never see a need without doing something about it'. This really captures that attitude that Mary showed throughout her truly amazing and inspiring life.
|
Last week we held our annual Athletics Carnival which was a great success. It was wonderful to see so many families at school on the day to cheer on the students. I was very impressed with the effort and sportsmanship on display throughout the day. It is great to be able to offer our students different ways to show their strengths and talents.

Congratulations to Teresa who were the overall winners followed by Anthony, Clare and Francis. Well done to Anthony for taking out the Spirit Cup. Thank you to all the staff, families and volunteers who helped out to make sure that the day ran smoothly, it was a great team effort.

As mentioned in last week’s newsletter, St Francis of Assisi along with all other Catholic schools in the diocese will be taking part in the Tell Them From Me (TTFM) Partners in Learning survey. There are surveys for staff, teachers, students and parents where participants provide feedback on their experience of our school. The surveys are an important part of our whole school evaluation and planning process.

All surveys are accessed online and are anonymous. The parent survey will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. You are able to access the parent survey on your computer or mobile device by using the following link: http://tellthemfromme.com/s4n55

Tomorrow morning after assembly the school will host a morning tea in the library and provide access to the computer lab for any parents who would like to complete the survey. If you have any questions please let me know.

Please be advised that the School Board will hold its Annual General Meeting on Monday September 11th at 5:30pm in the school library. This meeting will include the election of office bearers. If you would like to nominate to be a member of the School Board or if you have any questions please contact me.

A reminder that Book Week is fast approaching and the school will hold a Book Week dress-up parade on Friday August 25th.

INCLUSION SUPPORT
|
|
Hello, my name is Kate Fiedler and I am the Inclusion Support Coordinator (ISC) and Inclusion Support Practitioner (ISP) at St Francis of Assisi Catholic Primary School. I have more than 13 years of classroom teaching experience and will be completing my further studies soon in the area of Inclusive Education. Although born in QLD, I call the Territory home from my childhood in Jabiru, NT and living in Darwin on/off since 2005!

- Work alongside teachers in the classroom to support / extend students
- Assess, collect & share student data with staff (eg. observations, testing)
- Support teachers & Inclusion Support Assistants to monitor student progress
- Use data to inform targeted planning for students and whole class learning
- Consult students about their strengths, challenges and goals for learning
- Update student Education Adjustment Plans (EAPs) with teachers & families
- Research or create specific teaching and learning resources
- Assist the Principal to develop whole school frameworks of student support
- Provide training opportunities for staff about inclusive education practices
- Liaise with Catholic Education NT, St Francis staff, families and students

If you have any concerns or questions about your child’s learning, the first step is to contact the classroom teacher. This is because they work with your child daily and know them best as learners. If required, further steps and processes are taken by the Inclusion team and classroom teacher. I understand communication with families is important and this will be done in a timely, confidential and respectful way.
