A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

unnamed
Hi All,

This week is National Science Week, Australia’s annual celebration of science and technology. The school theme for National Science Week this year is Innovation: Powering Future Industries. The theme incorporates the advancement in technology in all industries. To mark National Science Week all classes have taken part in different science and technology lessons.

It is amazing to think about what sort of jobs our current students will have in the future. Although technology and the workplace of the future may change there will still be core skills that always are required such as communication, teamwork, problem solving, and critical thinking.

School Board
In last week’s newsletter I announced that the School Board’s Annual General Meeting will be held on Monday September 11th and called for nominations for parent representatives. I thought it was worth explaining a little more what the School Board does and the role of parent representatives.

The School Board in our setting is an advisory body which shares in the genuine leadership of the school community. The Board is responsible for setting the school’s strategic direction while operational matters are the responsibility of the Principal.

The Board is made up of the Principal, the Parish Priest, up to six elected Board members who are parents of current students, and nominated members who represent groups within the school community such as the Parents and Friends, School Staff and the Parish. The Board meets around twice per term (eight meetings for the year) to discuss issues and provide advice to the Principal.

If you are interested in joining the School Board or would like any more information please feel free to contact me.

Book Week
Next week is Book Week and the school will be holding a range of activities to celebrate this occasion. A Book Fair will be held in the library across the week (more information is included in the newsletter). Then on Friday August 25th there will be the Book Week Parade where students (and staff) are encouraged to dress up as a character from their favourite book.

Conversations for Learning
The Term Three Conversations for Learning will be held on September 5th and 6th. Booking details will be shared shortly.

School Closure Day - Vacation Care
A reminder that the school will have a closure day on Friday September 8th. Our ELC will remain open on this day and the school will also be running Vacation Care. More information about Vacation Care and booking forms are available in this newsletter or by contacting the school office.

Tell Them From Me Survey
The Tell Them From Me school surveys close on Friday August 25th. The family survey can be accessed from this link: http://tellthemfromme.com/s4n55
