week 7 Prayer corpus christi
Dear Families and Friends,
This week we have been part of National Reconciliation Week. Reconciliation is a journey for all Australians – as individuals, families, communities, organisations and importantly as a nation. At the heart of this journey are relationships between the broader Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

As part of this journey, we have heard a number of Dreamtime stories read to us by our Year 6 student leaders. We also welcomed Mrs Linda Ford, Aunty to the Jansan family, who has visited us today to discuss her Aboriginal heritage and culture.
We all have a role to play when it comes to reconciliation, and in playing our part we collectively build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures, and futures.
The 2021 Gardening Club has begun with real gusto. The veggie beds have had all the weeds removed, the soil has been turned, our irrigation system has been reconnected and the seeds have been planted.

I am very proud to share the news that we’ve been successful with our application for the 2021 Woolworths Junior Landcare Grant for our project, St Francis Reflection Garden. We have also received additional funding to install four beehives or pollinator hotels to complement our veggie garden project.
Our project involves reinvigorating the St Francis reflection garden next to the St Francis of Assisi statue for classes to use as an alternative learning space and as an additional space to participate in mindful activities to support wellbeing and mental health. The gardening club will be involved in the project by designing the placement of plants, the plant choice and the planting of the plants.
St Francis of Assisi Catholic Primary School is one of 1,609 primary schools and Early Learning Centres throughout Australia receiving a Woolworths Junior Landcare grant to help grow our next generation of environmental champions.
The grants are being funded with a 10c contribution from each sale of the Woolworths Bag for Good at full price, which was launched in 2018 when Woolworths went single-use plastic bag free.
We are looking forward to working on and learning from this project and we’ll keep you updated on the results.
Please mark in your diaries Friday the 18th of June as this is the date for our Sports Day. We love having families and friends enjoy spending the day with us.

Grow in Wisdom and Love.
