A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

unnamed
Hi All,

This Sunday marks the First Sunday of Advent. This season is a time of preparation that directs our hearts and minds to Christ’s second coming at the end of time and to the anniversary of Our Lord’s birth on Christmas. Like Lent, the liturgical colour for Advent is purple since both are seasons that prepare us for great feast days. During these sacred days of preparation, we are being asked to take some time to be still and silent as we prepare ourselves deeply for the coming of Christmas.

A symbol of the season of Advent is the wreath which is usually made with various evergreens which signifies continuous life. The circle of the wreath, which has no beginning or end, symbolises the eternity of God, the immortality of the soul, and the everlasting life we find in Christ.

The four candles of the wreath represent the four weeks of Advent, and one candle is lit each Sunday. Three of the candles are purple because the colour violet is a liturgical colour that signifies a time of prayer, penance, and sacrifice. The first candle, which is purple, symbolises hope. It is sometimes called the “Prophecy Candle” in remembrance of the prophets, especially Isaiah, who foretold the birth of Christ. It represents the expectation felt in anticipation of the coming Messiah.

As a school we gathered this week to celebrate the beginning of Advent and started our preparations for Christmas and the anniversary of the birth of Jesus Christ.

Student Reports
Our teachers are currently completing Semester Two Reports for all students. The reports will be made available to families in the final week of school. The purpose of semester reporting is to assess the progress of each student’s learning so far and to identify areas of future growth. Our teachers are constantly assessing student learning to help guide teaching and the Semester Reports are a culmination of these assessments.

School Choir
A huge congratulations to Mrs Dando and the School Choir for their wonderful performance at the Rural Carols on the weekend. It was a fantastic community celebration and the choir represented the school exceptionally well. Great work!
