A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

unnamed
Hi All,

This week marks the beginning of the season of Lent, which is the 40 days leading up to Easter. Lent like Advent in a time of preparation. During Lent, Christian people often do a few things to help them get ready for Easter. Traditionally it was seen as a time when people would ‘give up’ a particular treat or indulgence. However, it is now more seen as a time of reflection as people are encouraged to take time to think about themselves and their lives. They might ask questions like, "How can I be a better person?" or "What can I do to help others more?"

The number 40 is important during Lent. It represents the 40 days Jesus spent fasting in the desert before he began his ministry. So, Lent is a bit like a mini-adventure where we try to be more like Jesus and get ready to celebrate his amazing story at Easter. Even if you're not part of a Christian tradition, Lent can still be a good time to think about how you can make the world a better place and challenge yourself to be the best you can be.

2024 Student Leaders
Last week our Grade Six students who had nominated to be School Captains made speeches to their classmates, teachers and parents. I was so impressed with the thought and effort that went into the students’ speeches (I think we may have some future politicians here at St Francis). Following the speeches, our senior students and staff voted on their choices for this year’s School Captains. It is with great pleasure that I announce the 2024 student leaders:

School Captains: Piper Short and Joseph Croft
Clare (Yellow) House Captains: Thalia Cabuhat and Baxter Savy
Francis (Red) House Captains: Indy Maccioni and Jack Courtney
Teresa (Green) House Captains: Charlie Ryan and TJ Daiyi-Deveraux
Anthony (Blue) House Captains: Chloe Dando and Ayden Jentjens

Congratulations to all our Student Leaders and I am sure that they will do an amazing job!

Family Welcome and Information Evening
On Wednesday February 28th between 5:30 pm and 6:30 pm the school will hold a Family Welcome and Information Evening. This will allow families an opportunity to visit their children’s classrooms, meet our teaching team and find out more about our learning program for 2024.
