A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

unnamed
Hi All,

Firstly, a big pat on the back to all our Grade Three and Five students who took part in NAPLAN tests this week. It was great to see all the students giving the tests their best shot. So far, the students have completed Writing and Reading tests. Next week, they will sit Conventions of Language and Numeracy tests.

It is important to remember that NAPLAN is just one part of the assessment cycle and provides a snapshot of each students’ achievement on that particular day in that particular test. Our teaching staff are constantly assessing students to inform future teaching.

Early this week, many families took up the opportunity to meet with their child’s teacher through the Conversations for Learning meetings. If you were unable to attend the meetings for whatever reason, please contact your child’s teacher to organise a time for a meeting or phone call.

Crazy Socks Day
A reminder that the school will hold a Crazy Sock Day tomorrow, Friday March 15th. Students and staff are invited to wear their wackiest, wildest socks to school to support Project Compassion. In line with our commitment to helping those in need, we kindly ask that each student brings a gold coin donation to participate in this fun event.

Harmony Day
Next week is Harmony Day, which is a celebration that recognises our diversity and brings together Australians from all different backgrounds. Harmony Day is about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.

To mark Harmony Day on Thursday March 21st we ask that students wear orange or something that represents your family’s culture. The school will run a number of activities for students on the day to demonstrate the diverse cultures we have at our school.

Welcome
I would like to take the opportunity to welcome new faces to the St Francis of Assisi School community. Melissa Nilsson has joined the Junior P class, I know that many of her classmates have gone out of their way to make her feel at home. We also welcome Alyce Bretherton as a new educator in our Early Learning Centre.
