Dear Families and Friends,
It was wonderful to see so many families at our Parent Information Night on Tuesday night. As you may have heard before, it takes a village to raise a child. So it is in partnership with you that we work to educate your child. It was also wonderful to see so many faces in the 'MindUp' presentation lead by Cheryl Edwards, Senior Psychologist/Pastoral Care & Wellbeing Officer from the Catholic Education Office. MindUp is a classroom-based social and emotional learning program designed to enhance self- awareness, social awareness, attention, self-regulation, problem-solving, and pro-social behaviour (helping, sharing, and cooperating). We introduced the program last year and continue to implement it into the children's learning in 2020.

Last week we welcomed into the school community our new Indonesian teacher, Ibu Enggar. Ibu Enggar originally came from Jakarta, Indonesia and came to Australia in 2010 as a newly enrolled university student in accounting at Charles Darwin University. Graduating from this degree in 2014, she decided to branch out a little and took another course in a Bachelor of Education, majoring in Music and Indonesian of which she graduated in 2017. She is currently enrolled in a Master degree for Digital Learning Future to further enhance her understanding of technology and digital media as well as to probe the possibilities of digital media and how it can optimise learning in school.
She has always wanted to promote, show, and teach about the beautifully diverse culture that her country, Indonesia, has to offer, as well as the Indonesian language.
She thoroughly enjoys teaching the Indonesian language through Darwin Languages Centre and teaches in a number of schools across Darwin.
Last Tuesday it was Safer Internet Day. With the increase in the availability of online games, advice for parents and carers about the suitability of these games, and tips for monitoring the use of games, is available from the Australian eSafety Commissioner at https://www.esafety.gov.au/. There are students in our school who talk about games they access that are clearly not designed for primary school students and some are rated 18+. We encourage parents to supervise games children are engaging in and have a discussion about the
appropriateness of some of these games.

Tomorrow morning at 9:00 we will celebrate the beginning of the school year with a Mass. At the Mass, we will introduce our 2020 School Captains and bless them. It would be lovely to have families and friends join us for this celebration.

Wishing everyone a loving Valentines Day tomorrow. May the love that you feel bring brightness and happiness to your whole week.

Grow in Wisdom and Love
