week 5
Dear Families and Friends,
This week we begin the liturgical season of Lent. Lent is a special time of repentance, fasting and preparation for the coming of Easter. It is a time of self-reflection; to stop and think about how we can play our part in God’s hope for a world that is fair, just and peaceful.
On Tuesday we began morning tea with the sharing and eating of pancakes. Traditionally Shrove Tuesday was the last opportunity to use up eggs and fats before embarking on the Lenten fast and pancakes are the perfect way of using up these ingredients. The ingredients for pancakes can be seen to symbolise four points of significance at this time of year:
Eggs ~ Creation
Flour ~ The staff of life
Salt ~ Wholesomeness
Milk ~ Purity
We also celebrated mass together as a community on
Ash Wednesday. It was a beautiful celebration at the Church which gave us the opportunity to stop and reflect about what we wanted to perhaps ‘give up’ during the Lenten period or perhaps ‘do extra’ during this time.
At the Mass, we also Blessed and congratulated our 2020 Sports Captains.

Please keep some time free in your calendars on either the 24th or 25th of March as teachers will be hosting ‘Conversations for Learning’ with yourselves and your child. The purpose of these meetings is to discuss the learning goals your child would like to achieve before the end of the semester and strategies that could be implemented to support these goals being achieved.

On Tuesday Mrs Gullefer and Mr Taylor took a number of students to the Palmerston netball courts to participate in the PARRS Netball day. There will be a number of different sporting events being offered in the coming months for us to participate in. These will be advertised through letters home and class dojo.

I will be attending Principal Gatherings at the Catholic Education Office for the next two days. Shannon Morgan will be coordinating the school in my absence.
